Looking Ahead to 2016

Message from the President

Happy New Year! Here is hoping all of our students and team members had a wonderful holiday season and are anxious to begin an exciting and successful 2016. A big CONGRATULATIONS and WELCOME to the more than one hundred fifty new freshmen who begin their studies in the Winter Semester on January 6, 2016. We expect to greet more than five hundred new English as a Second Language students on January 26, 2016.

The entire Interactive College of Technology leadership team has spent the past two months completing comprehensive assessments of all aspects of the College’s operations.

Surveys were completed by more than ninety-percent of our students and all of our team members. These surveys, along with meetings with faculty and advisory committee members and the Institutional Advisory Committee, resulted in determining the areas where we performed well, areas where we can and need to improve, and the setting of goals for 2016.

By way of summary, we saw an increase in the number of new freshmen who chose Interactive College of Technology to further their training and education, with over 5,500 students enrolling in our Colleges and more than ninety-two percent (92%) of our graduates obtaining employment in their field. More than seventy percent (70%) of that number received salary offers exceeding the standards set by the College.

Internally for 2016, we want to move our faculty advisor program to a stronger, more effective level. Universally, we believe the critical ingredient, other than quality instruction and customer service, is the development of a strong bond between the student and the advisor.

The Colleges also have laid out plans for several curricula enhancements, including moving the Office Technology platform to Office 2013 (the platform most widely used by employers). We are planning to add a certification for QuickBooks, as well as add two relevant certifications that will enhance the marketability of our Medical Office Administrative Specialists.

We also have in our plans a major expansion of the Southwest Houston Campus, the Kentucky Campus, as well as integrating the new Donna N. Smith Memorial Hall into the mainstream operations of the Chamblee Campus.

Lastly, the institutional leadership team held its annual conference in Georgia on January 6-10, 2016. Highlights included giving the team members an opportunity to submit statements about what they were most proud of in being a part of Interactive College of Technology. A few of these comments are included in this newsletter, and a copy of the presentation has been shared for viewing at each campus.

The meeting centered around our connecting all team members through the Polycom system, and I provided our team members with a comprehensive overview of the private career school industry. We discussed why so many organizations are facing major challenges, including campus closures and employee layoffs. Most importantly, we discussed why we believe our institutions are in a much different place. While we have our challenges, we also have an abundance of opportunity lying at our doorstep and have all the tools to meet those challenges. We want to graduate and place a higher percentage of our students! And we will in 2016.
