The Accounting and Professional Business Applications program is available at all Interactive College of Technology campuses, both as an associate degree (area of emphasis) or short-term diploma program of study. Both Accounting programs prepare students for an exciting new career in the field of Accounting.
The Accounting and Professional Business Applications programs are designed to develop essential accounting, office automation and application skills. The focus is on learning the basic Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Fundamental procedures, understanding and applying spreadsheets, credits and debits, setting up accounts, general ledgers, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and quarterly and annual reports are at the core of this program.
Both the diploma and associate degree programs’ coursework include an introduction to the two most widely used professional accounting software programs, Sage Accounting and QuickBooks Pro. Additionally, the coursework includes classes designed to prepare students to complete a Microsoft Office Specialist Certification (MOS), which is a requirement for graduation.
Coursework for the Associate of Science degree goes much more in depth to cover additional elements such as Cost Accounting, Federal Tax Procedures, and Principles of Entrepreneurship.
As with all programs at ICT, the Accounting programs includes an externship. Our externship program is designed to give students the opportunity to put their new skills to use and to gain real-world experience in their chosen field of study. ICT partners with well-known organizations and industry leaders. For 135 hours, our students are able to get on-the-job training that often leads to a full-time job offer. This is an excellent program in preparation for a career in the wide open accounting field, which includes work as a bookkeeper, payroll clerk, accounts receivable clerk and more.
There will always be a demand for people with accounting skills and the ability to apply them. Our hands-on approach to training assures you will be well-equipped to enter this field. According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics and the US Department of Labor, the accounting field as a whole will experience above average growth compared to all sectors at least through the year 2020.
While other schools may offer accounting programs, the individual attention, hands-on training, and self-paced approach to education provided by ICT will afford you advantages that cannot be found at any other institution.
